This web guide was compiled by the students in CLIS 720, the capstone graduate level school library media course at the University of South Carolina School of Library and Information Science.

The school library and media center policy and procedures manual is the tool that communicates to those outside the media center, what takes place in the library and the rational behind these procedures.  It is a guide to offer not only sample polices but additional resources for help in developing a policy and procedure manual.  This manual helps not only the library media specialist but others understand the library media program.  The manual:

  • guides and directs the LMS in developing the library program
  • lists the LMC services
  • clarifies non-instructional procedures and policies
  • contains LMC management forms
  • helps the LMS meet challenges
